Goa Bank case exposes fascist traits of BJP: Cong

Says CM misused powers to appoint two directors

PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Sunday has alleged that the fascist traits of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are becoming amply visible with the third instance of crushing down democratic norms in the post-election process of the Goa Urban Cooperative Bank Ltd.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary Girish Chodankar said, “I have brought to the notice of the public similar undemocratic tactics of the BJP to misuse its power either in forming Goa government, manipulating the process of panchayat elections or establishing its supremacy over GUCBL. BJP is undoubtedly a party with a difference which simply does not believe in Parliamentary democracy”
“Just like how the BJP formed the government in Goa even by misusing the Governor’s office and manipulated election process of panchayats by abusing powers of the Directorate of Panchayats, the BJP has now exploited the office of Registrar of Cooperative Societies,” Chodankar said.
Chodankar observed that the educated shareholders had consciously rejected the BJP-backed panel in the GUCBL election on May 7, 2017 while electing a panel of 6 directors headed by Dr Anil Naik Gaunekar.
“The BJP initially exploited office of the RCS (Registrar of Co-operative Societies) to delay the election of chairman and tried their level best to purchase some of the directors from winning panel through horse-trading and other tactics. As the elected directors showed courage to prove that they are not for sale, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar misused government powers to appoint two directors, which is the power of the Board of Directors to co-opt,” he said.
Chodankar further said that the fascist trend of bulldozing its power has also become visible with the fact that one of these illegally appointed directors is the wife of Parrikar’s former PA and stop-gap former Panjim MLA Sidharth Kunkolkar.
