This morning, you will be carrying out your solemn duty towards your land and your people. A duty in memory of the generations of proud Goemkars who have fought to preserve and protect this land, and a duty for your future.
The vote is yours, the choice is yours. Your newspaper cannot and will not ever tell you the direction your support should take. That is your call. We are asking you take that call well, make that choice well. Our job is restricted to making your voice louder.
So choose wisely, dear Goans. Keep everything in mind. Do not forget – both the good and the bad and decide accordingly. Do not forgive when there are reasons not to forgive. Today you are the account keeper – keeping an account of the service granted to you by those you elected to serve. You need to decide if your outgoing ministers have created a mess or not and are giving you excuses.
And as it happens in all elections, you move from being a complainant to being a judge. And the judgement that you give on poling day will determine what your fate will be for the next five years. Many candidates have come to you to seek for your vote. You may have been enticed with favours or even perhaps any other unholy gratification. Do not get influenced by those. They are not your friends or well wishers.
Parties must be worthy of your vote. And yet proper parties must be voted for. The man or woman you choose must be worthy of your confidence and your choice. It’s your choice that your MLA will be for all, will not discriminate between people and deliver on promises when seeking your vote. This may be textbook stuff, but has moved out of the manual. It’s your duty to make value based honest politics count.
Do remember that if you do not give a decisive mandate, you will have to go to the races – the horse trading race. In this race, free moving MLAs will be moving towards the highest bidder, without even consulting you. Those who came to you to seek your votes will not open their doors for you. To stop this ugly race, vote decisively dear Goans.
All the very best.
