Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has asserted that the examinations won’t clash with the State Legislative Assembly elections.
Considering that annual school exams in the five poll-bound states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur could overlap with the elections, ECI has sent a written communiqué directing the respective education boards to consult them before scheduling the examinations.
Though Goa Board is yet to receive the ECI letter, the board confirmed that Class XII and Class X Board exams are scheduled post the elections. “The Class XII Board examination is scheduled from March 1 to 21, 2017 while Class X exams will be held from April 1 to 21, 2017. We expect elections by February,” GBSHSE Secretary Shivkumar Jangam told Herald.
The Board had sent the dates fixed for practical and theory examinations to the ECI, little before the latter announced consulting it before scheduling the exam dates. “The Commission is aware that the annual examinations at various levels of educational institutions in the States are generally due in the first half of the year. The Commission wants that there is no clash between the program of the elections and the examination schedule,” the Commission has written to the States.
Jangam said that practical dates in most likelihood could coincide with the voting and/or counting days, however, they are flexible for change. “The practical dates can be changed,” he said.
