PANJIM: The Goa Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has plans to have its own syllabus and textbooks for school students by creating a ‘Textbook Bureau’, on the lines of Maharashtra and other states.
“This is a promising plan of the Goa Board that will not cater exclusively for students under Goa Board, including those at lower levels,” said Goa Board Chairman J R Rebello speaking to Herald.
Presently Goa takes copyright from NCERT, prints and supplies books to students.
The textbook bureau will instead prepare the syllabus incorporating local content, print and supply textbooks to students and eventually phase out NCERT books.
“We are going to take on this mega task shortly,” said the Goa Board Chairman.
Presently Goa Board caters to students from classes IX to XII and has been in the process of preparing certain textbooks for its students through its Board of Studies. It has also been making huge strides in including local content in the syllabus.
