PANJIM: Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) will inquire into the alleged faulty correction of answer sheets of Class XII students.
The change in Commerce topper after re-evaluation of the business studies paper has prompted the Board to inquire into what went wrong during the correction process. Around four subject papers of Class XII and Class X were digitally evaluated amidst opposition from a certain section of teachers.
“We have taken measures as per the procedure. An inquiry into discrepancies in marks before and after re-evaluation, and who is responsible for the alleged mistake will be conducted after the completion of SSC supplementary exams,” GBSHSE Chairman J Rebello told Herald.
Several students had applied for re-evaluation of papers that revealed some had scored higher than what had been announced when the results were declared in May. Among them was Manmeet Timble, who surpassed the declared topper in the Commerce stream scoring 95.6 percent after re-evaluation.
Some students gained additional marks in single digits and the remaining retained their original marks. Rebello asserted it was a normal trend. In response to Timble’s current ranking, he stated, a similar situation surfaced about two years ago when a Science topper was overtaken by another. “The student who sought re-evaluation of papers became the topper as he scored additional 17 to 18 marks in English,” he said. There was no computerized correction of answer sheets at that time.
The Board recently held supplementary exams for HSSC students, while SSC supplementary exams are slated from June 20-27. The correction of the answer sheets will begin shortly.
Meanwhile, the government has announced an inquiry by the IT Cell even as Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday declared that he would study the inquiry report before taking action.
