Goa Board workers’ strike from today

PANJIM: The functioning of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education is likely to face a setback as its employees have resolved to commence an indefinite strike from Wednesday over the government’s failure to implement the seventh pay commission for them.

The Board Employees Association has issued a prior intimation regarding the indefinite strike. A week ago, some 50 employees had boycotted work for one day to protest the non-implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations while warning of indefinite strike if their demands are not met.
The striking staffers rued that the government notification kept aside autonomous bodies and corporations from enjoying the benefits of the new pay scale.
Over 500 institutions are affiliated to Goa Board even as Class X and Class XII students are soon to answer their preliminary exams.
With the code of conduct expected to be announced on Wednesday, the employees apprehend further delay in getting their demand fulfilled.
