Goa Cabinet raises income limit for compassionate appointment scheme to Rs 5L

Approves land transfers for National Disaster Response Force and cellphone towers

PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday granted its nod to increase the annual income limit for availing the compassionate appointment scheme from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. 

Addressing a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the higher income limit will be applicable to all applications since April 1, 2017. “Those who were unable to apply due to income limit criteria since 2017, can apply now,” he clarified. 

As on date, around 350 applications for compassionate appointment are pending before the Goa government, Sawant informed. 

In other decision, cabinet approved transfer of 25,000 sq mtr government land to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The NDRF is an elite Government of India force deployed to conduct rescue and relief operations during natural disasters. 

Sawant said that the State had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with NDRF in Pune for raising a dedicated State disaster response force. 

 Further, Cabinet approved allocation of 100 to 200 sq mtr government land in four villages in South Goa to set up 4G cellphone towers. 

 Vidya Sahay Yojana aimed at encouraging community, public and private sector participation in empowering schools in the State was also approved by the Cabinet.
