Panjim: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, addressing reporters during a State Cabinet meeting, clarified that the regularization of houses on Communidade land is not aimed at slum regularization but at safeguarding homes constructed by Niz Goemkar. Underlining the importance of Communidade bodies’ involvement in the decision-making process, Sawant emphasized that 70 to 80 per cent of houses on Communidade land belong to Goans, and the objective is to provide them protection.
The Chief Minister’s statement follows the issuance of demolition notices to around 500 houses in Canacona and 150 in Saligao, constructed on Communidade land. Sawant assured that regulations would be developed collaboratively with Communidade bodies and clarified that the law aims to protect Goan houses rather than regularize slums. He highlighted the challenges faced by homeowners due to inconsistent permissions issued by different Communidade committees and emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution to protect residents’ interests.
