PANJIM: A delegation of Congress leaders on Tuesday discussed party’s strategy and to launch aggressive campaign for the ensuing Goa Assembly elections at Delhi.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar, working presidents Aleixo Sequeira and Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha attended the meeting chaired by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Former Union Minister and AICC election observer for Goa, P Chidambaram and AICC Goa in-charge Dinesh Rao also attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed ongoing membership drive, organisational matters and strategy to win the upcoming elections.
It is learnt that during the meeting , Gandhi assured them all support from the AICC and requested them to launch aggressive campaign to defeat the divisive Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and to fulfill the aspiration of the people of Goa.
It is learnt that Gandhi told them to expose the BJP government’s lies to the people of Goa. He told them to work in tandem and to take all issues concerning the State and the country to the grassroot cadre.
The meeting also discussed whether to go for pre-poll alliance with the like-minded parties or to contest all 40 Assembly seats. There was discussion on pre-poll alliance with like-minded parties but the final decision will be taken by the high command, informed one of the members of the delegation.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi will visit Goa on Saturday where he will address active party workers meeting at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium, Taleigao plateau at 4 pm.
It is learnt that some of the Goa Congress members also attended a meeting chaired by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, where there was discussion on membership programme, Jan Jagran Abhiyan and the upcoming Assembly polls in five States.
