Ramdas Athawale’s recent statement about Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservation in the Goa Legislative Assembly has sparked outrage within the political landscape of the state. The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment suggested that due to the relatively small ST population in Goa, implementing reservations for this community in the Assembly is not viable.
In response to these remarks, the Goa Congress has issued a strong condemnation, with the party’s Vice President, S. Kawthankar, alleging that Athawale’s statements have revealed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) true stance regarding the ST community.
This incident underscores the ongoing debate and contention surrounding the topic of reservation in the state’s legislative bodies, further intensifying the political discourse as different parties express their positions on this sensitive issue.
