PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 positivity rate rose to 49.6 per cent—highest in the country—as the smallest State witness one in every two person testing positive for the deadly virus.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the coastal State’s average positivity rate from May 5 to May 11 was 49.6 per cent. It was 48.5 per cent as on May4, while before that it was 48 per cent.
The data clearly shows that Goa is witnessing sharp rise in daily positivity rate across the country.
As per the latest information shared by the Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare, Haryana, which ranked second until now, has dropped down to 4th place with 34.3 per cent positivity rate, decline from earlier 36 per cent.
Union Territory Puducherry ranks second with 42.8 per cent positivity, followed by West Bengal with 34.4 per cent positivity.
The first ten days of May alone reported 30,598 new cases with 561 deaths. Also, 20,720 people recovered during this period.
Before this, the entire April month had seen over 33,000 cases.
The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane have been stressing upon measures to reduce the high positivity as well as mortality rate in the State.
