PONDA: Around 25 farmers of Goa Dairy led by Sanjeev Kuncolienkar on Friday strongly opposed the proposed Rs 4 per kg hike in price of cattle feed manufactured by the dairy.
Kuncolienkar along with the farmers from Valpoi and Sattari, after knowing the fact that the Goa Dairy had even printed hiked price on the bags which will be used for selling cattle feed, rushed to Goa Dairy office and met Administrator Arvind Khutkar.
They held a two-hour long meeting with administrator on the issue. Goa Dairy manufactures and sells cattle feed to its farmers.
According to the farmers, the rates of corn karnel used in cattle feed are reduced in the market by around Rs 8. Besides, also prices of other raw material ingredients are also reduced. So the farmers questioned why Goa Dairy is hiking price instead of lowering it.
The farmers demanded that if the dairy is hiking the price of cattle feed then it should also provide benefit of it to its farmers by hiking milk purchase price by Rs 4.
The farmers decided to submit a written memorandum to the Goa Dairy administrator about their demand.
Due to rising cost of raw material required for producing cattle feed, the Goa Dairy administration is thinking of hiking cattle feed price. However, would also consider the farmers’ demand before arriving to any decision on the price rise of cattle feed,” Khutkar explained.
