Goa Dairy hikes milk procurement rate by Re 1 per litre

PONDA: Stating that the Goa Dairy management has decided to hike milk procurement rates by Re one per litre, chairman Durgesh Shirodkar on Wednesday said that around 4000 farmers supplying milk to the dairy will benefit from the hike which will come into force from September 1.

He was addressing media persons along with Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Societies Avit Naik and Goa Dairy MD Anil Fadte.

He said, “Earlier, the farmers were paid Rs 34.95 per litre and now they will get Rs 35.89 depending upon quality of milk supplied by them. Besides this, the government also provides support price to farmers.”

Shirodkar, who was appointed as chairman of three-member Administrative Committee two months ago said, “This is Chaturthi gift for our milk supplying farmers and reward for their hard work.  The decision was possible because as soon as our three-member committee took charge of Goa Dairy, we adopted cost cutting measures.”

Providing details of the various measures adopted, he said, “For last several years production was taken in two shifts. Now, instead of two shifts the same is done one shift. We have reduced overtime and other expenditure.”
