Ponda: A day after holding a strike, the Goa Dairy (GD) milk supplying transporters withdrew their strike and resumed supply to various parts of Goa.
This was announced by the Chairman of the three-member GD administrative committee Durgesh Shirodkar on Thursday. He however stated that GD is not bowing before the transporters demand for cancellation of the fresh e-auction tender that has already been issued to new operators on the Collem and Curchorem route. Expressing hope that GD will be able to recover the loss of Rs 14 lakhs it suffered due to the strike.
He further urged farmers, milk societies’ Chairmen, and those people who have been hit by the pandemic and are unemployed, to submit their quotes for the e-tender process initiated by GD, for which having a vehicle is one of the criteria. He explained that the tendering process for the 27 routes will continue and that the last day for submission is on December 22.
He also pointed out that as per the rules, GD is bound to conduct e-tendering of milk supplying routes after the previous contract comes to an end. While pointing out that the tendering had not been held for the past few years, he said he is a farmer and that earlier; he had voiced his objections to various malpractices in GD. He added that his aim as Administrator is to give justice to the farmers.
