Goa Dairy suffers Rs 5 lakh loss due to milk wastage

PONDA: Goa Dairy on Monday reportedly suffered a loss of Rs 5 lakh due to wastage of milk around 9000 litres as the dairy failed to unload the same following a technical snag.   

According to Goa Dairy sources, the incident occurred on Monday morning when as usual the milk was collected from various milk supplying societies and was brought to dairy premises through their vehicles.  However, till late evening, the milk remained in vehicles and as a result the perishable commodity got wasted as the dairy failed to unload it following a technical snag in the computer system.

Speaking to Herald Goa Dairy Administrator Durgesh Shirodkar said, “A loss of Rs 5 lakh is estimated on account of wastage of milk. The loss is due to the negligence on the part of the officials. I will probe into the matter to ascertain the exact cause and hold those responsible for the same to prevent such incidents in future. I have sought a detailed report from dairy official into the incident”.

Shirodkar said if there was fault in computer account system the milk should have been unloaded by keeping a record manually. 

“I will complain to Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) seeking action against the officials responsible for the incident after receiving a detailed inquiry report into the matter”.

Goa Dairy farmer and former chairman Anup Desai demanded an inquiry and sought action against officials responsible for the wastage of milk.
