MAPUSA: The State government aims to double the income of farmers by 2024, claimed Neville Alfonso, Director of Agriculture, on Friday.
“Efforts will be made to process the farm produce and sell it in the market and in order to do so all the farmers will have to come together. In this connection, in next four to five months, government will set up farmers’ associations in every Taluka,” Alfonso said speaking at farmers’ meet organized by the State government’s agriculture directorate at the Bardez divisional agriculture office. He was accompanied by Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Bardez ZAO Sampati Dhargalkar, Vishwas Shirodkar and others.
“Attempts will be made to process the agricultural produce and sell it with various other products. This will double the income of the farmers and will also benefit the people in the village. Apart from this, farmers should take advantage of modern technology, as the government provides 50 to 90 percent subsidy on this,” Alfonso said.
He also insists every farmer should check the quality of soil and take care of it for the next generation.
MLA Joshua D’Souza said that the farmers yield gold from agricultural land in the form of grain and they are economic backbone of the country. More and more farmers should get Krushi card, MLA appealed.
“During the Corona pandemic, we came to know that how much we are dependent on the neighbouring States. Therefore, the government has implemented the concept of ‘Self-reliant India, Self-sufficient Goa’, Joshua said.
Joshua further said that the agricultural policy of Goa is the best in the country and farmers should avail subsidies along with government schemes.
“Farmers, especially youth, should take initiative to turn to agriculture and earn money from self-employment. If we adopt modern technology, we will not need workers”, he added
