MARGAO: Quote contrary to his Union Ministers state the Goa Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar said on Friday that his department, along with the other concerned authorities like the Coastal Police, have been taking action against the use of LED lights and other banned equipment for fishing and that they have held inspections of trawlers at the jetties too.
While the ground reality on the seriousness and efficiency of this action is another story altogether, the official stand against LED fishing in Goa has been established.
Pointing out that action has also already been initiated in cases where boat owners were found to have equipment not permitted as per law, including LED lights; the Minister said strict instructions were issued to all the authorities to enforce the law.
He added that there are steps being taken to install CCTV cameras at these jetties, which would act as a deterrent and also help the authorities with their surveillance.
