PANJIM: Goa Foundation (GF) has also approached the court, demanding for the squashing of the scheduled date for the two district hearings on the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).
It may be recalled that environmental activist Abhijit Prabhudesai had on Wednesday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court calling for the squashing of the public hearings that have been scheduled on March 7 for both North and South Goa.
Pointing out that they didn’t file a separate case but an intervening application to the PIL, GF Founder Claude Alvares said there isn’t enough time for people to prepare for the same.
“The government took ten years to prepare this. It is unfair that they are giving the people just one month’s time to go over the plan and attend the hearing,” said Alvares.
He added that they want the hearings postponed by at least three-four weeks and that it should be held at a taluka level instead of the proposed district level.
