Goa Foundation withdraws plea for recovery from mining companies

The Goa Foundation had prayed for the recovery of monies from mining owners for the mining operations undertaken between 2007 and 2018.

PANJIM: The Goa Foundation has withdrawn the petition filed in the High Court of Bombay at Goa for recovery of money from mining owners, after the Court said that the petition is not maintainable.

The Goa Foundation had prayed for the recovery of monies from mining owners for the mining operations undertaken between 2007 and 2018.

The Goa Foundation claiming that the mining operations undertaken during the above period was illegal had prayed for the recovery. However, the State government maintained that whatever recovery that was supposed to be done has been undertaken on the basis of Supreme Court order and orders for recoveries have already been passed.

The Government of Goa maintained in the court that no direction was issued by the Apex Court to recover the entire money from the mining owners on basis of which the High Court said that the petition is not maintainable.

Advocate General Devidas Pangam told that the State government has already passed an order in pursuance of the order of the matter that concluded in the Supreme Court.
