MARGAO: In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting, on Monday, the South Goa District Collector along with other concerned officials inspected the venue at Kadamba Bus stand at Fatorda pertaining to security arrangements.
Several BJP leaders including Margao MLA Digambar Kamat present at the time of inspection and claimed that a huge crowd will attend the meeting but also clarified that it is not a party meeting, but stated that the Prime Minister would highlight the central schemes that have benefited the public at large.
The venue for the PM’s meeting has been fixed at the KTC bus stand wherein even the public bus services have been shifted to different locations.
Speaking to media, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that this venue will accommodate a huge crowd. “This meeting is basically to highlight the central schemes, wherein the PM will brief the public on the issue. Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant too will address the gathering and stress on schemes at the state level”, he informed.
As informed by the officials, there exist few shops at the KTC bus stand which will be shut down for some days on security grounds.
Interestingly, the much discussed KTC bus stand over here will get a face lift as the works pertaining to the same have already commenced. The roads are being hot-mixed; bus stand structure is being replaced and painted. A huge work force was engaged in the repair works.
Reacting on the issue, several citizens have stated that at last for the sake of the PM the neglected bus stand will get a new look. “The hardships faced by the public and also the bus operators over here were always being sidelined by the government. The KTC bus stand was caring for attention for the last several years,” said Oswald D’Souza.
Shivanand Naik, another citizen also said that people would appreciate it if the government resolved this issue of the bus stands permanently and not only for the sake of the PM.
“Passengers face a difficult time during the rainy season as the water gushes down through the broken roof sheets.
This being main bus stand of South Goa, it was the responsibility of the government to provide much better facilities to the public,” he stated.
