MAPUSA: The Minister for Health, Craftsmen training, Women and Child Development, Vishwajit Rane pointed out that there is a need for physiotherapy and follow up treatment post a stroke, which has now become very common in the state. He revealed that many are being diagnosed with lifestyle diseases during the inauguration of the project ‘State Institute of Health and Family Welfare and College of Physiotherapy’ at the restored old Asilo hospital at Mapusa on Wednesday. The total cost of this project carried out by GSIDC is pegged at Rs. 10.56 crores.
At the function they also launched Swawlambhan, a grant in aid scheme to provide financial assistance to the mahila mandal/ self-help groups and 100 cheques were distributed at the occasion.
Vishwajit Rane highlighted that every second day new health care services are being launched in the state. The plan for a Primary Health Centre for Calangute constituency to the tune of Rs. 24 crores is also in its final stages.
“Financial assistance given to the women self-help groups on a yearly basis has been increased to Rs.30,000 from the earlier amount of Rs. 5,000. There is a need for women to stand on their own feet and become independent,” said Rane.
The Chairman GSIDC and Sanvordem MLA, Deepak Pauskar told that the said works have been completed nine months ago by GSIDC who are known to carry out quality work. The area of the building is 3295 sq mts and the total are of the plot is 6944 sq mts.
The Deputy Speaker and Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo informed that it is a proud moment for Goa as it will have its own physiotherapy college which was the vision of Vishwajit Rane.
