PANJIM: During the period between the elections and the counting of votes, Goa has some little other excitement coming its way and it will come through the annual Carnival that will take place from February 25 onwards.
Preparations for the Carnival festival have already begun and the emphasis this year will be on eco-friendly floats, getting rid of junk vehicles and cracking down on indecency while also maintaining the traditional and cultural essence of the festivity.
The Carnival committee is also in the process of selecting the King Momo, who will rule the State for the four days. “The legendary King Momo will rule over Goa for four days and throw open Carnival revelry in Panjim on February 25. Elaborate floats, music, dancing and décor will form part of the festivity,” a tourism official said.
Spectacular float parades and an array of events and activities are being planned for the Carnival scheduled from February 25-28. Carnival committees have been set up and guidelines drawn for smooth conduct of the four day extravaganza.
The float parades in Margao, Vasco and Mapusa will be held on February 26, 27 and 28 respectively. It being a weekend, the festival organiser – Tourism Department – is expecting a huge flow of tourists.
