PANJIM: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Principal Bench has granted an extension till January 31, 2019 to the Goa government to submit to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEF&CC) the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP).
State Government had made an application to NGT seeking further extension to submit the CZMP citing technical reasons for the delay in preparing the plan by the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM).
“Time is extended till 31.01.2019 as prayed for, for submission of Coastal Zonal Management Plan to the MOEF&CC. Accordingly, the application stands disposed of,” order issued by Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel, on November 14, reads.
NGT, through a country wide order in November 2017, had set deadline of April 30, 2018 for all coastal States and Union Territories to submit CZMPs. MoEF was granted three months till July 30, to approve the plans.
As an interim order, NGT had banned granting permissions for developmental projects in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) pending finalisation of the CZMP.
