Goa going through undeclared emergency: MLA

PORVORIM:  Stating Goa is going through an undeclared emergency; Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Saturday called upon the Goans to unite and said that as a divided opposition is only allowing the BJP to score brownie points.

“I condemn the assault on Shailendra Velingkar, who was hit by Superintendent of Police, after taking him into custody and also arrest, assault and harassment of the people, social activists and others protesting against the IIT project at Melauli”, Rohan Khaunte said.

Khaunte said, “The assault is barbaric and illegal, which indicates that the high ranking SP level officials are trying to treat Goa, the way they handle Delhi, Bihar and UP. Whenever there are protests, the government should have a dialogue with the protestors. This government is trying to suppress the voice of Goans”.

Khaunte said, “I salute the people of Melauli for handling the situation in spite of all the pressures. There was lathi charge and other attacks. Goans should learn lessons from this. Differences expressed by the people through the protests should be redressed by the government by initiating dialogues”.

“It is for all of us to ensure that we safeguard the interest of Goa and Goans by acting and not by sitting at home. The police force in the state comprises locals, who have to face their fellow state brethrens, while the high ranking officials will be transferred to the other States,” Khaunte said.
