Goa Government Faces Criticism for Silence on Tiger Reserve Notification Deadline

Panjim: The Goa government has been subject to severe criticism for its apparent silence regarding the notification of the Tiger Reserve, as well as the lack of progress in the High Court’s plea to extend the October 24 deadline. The Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary was slated to be notified as a Tiger Reserve, but the state government’s plea to the High Court for an extension of the deadline went unheard. Moreover, the Supreme Court has not issued a stay on the High Court’s directive to Goa for the notification of the Tiger Reserve.

The issue came under scrutiny when Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant was questioned about the matter on Thursday. In response, he stated that the government had filed an application with the High Court requesting an extension, but as of now, the High Court has not made a decision.

The silence from the government has raised concerns and led to criticism from various quarters, especially environmentalists and wildlife conservationists. Many are anxious about the potential impact of this delay on the protection and preservation of the Mhadei Sanctuary, which is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the tigers.
