PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that the government has not taken any loans in the current financial quarter since April 2024, despite having a borrowing limit of Rs 3,300 crores. Speaking on the budget, Sawant said, “From April 1 till date, we have not taken a loan of a single rupee. Our limit is Rs 3,300 crore. Though we have not taken out a loan, everything is being managed well. We are continuously doing loan restructuring and prepayment exercises.”
Sawant emphasised that the government’s restructuring of loan rates, now under eight per cent, has benefited the State to the tune of Rs 50 crore annually. The revenue receipt of the State for 2023-24 is Rs 18,231 crore. He also announced a slew of development projects in the pipeline. (see box)
