MARGAO: Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao criticised the BJP government for its apparent lack of commitment to providing employment opportunities to skilled youth in Goa. Alemao’s statement comes in response to the reply given by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the State Assembly, revealing that the government has no plan of action to secure permanent employment for youths who have completed apprenticeships.
Highlighting the worrying situation, Alemao stated that the non-commitment of the government is evident in the statistics. Out of 8,242 trainees who have successfully completed skill development courses, only nine Goans have secured government jobs from 2019 until the present date.
Yuri Alemao accused the government of being directionless when it comes to offering employment opportunities to trainees of skill development and apprenticeship programs.
He remarked, “I have received the information that only 89 Goans were recruited in the last five years by 11 companies in Goa, who availed the benefit of the employment subsidy scheme of the government, which provides subsidies to those companies that employ a minimum of 60 percent of Goan manpower on a regular employment basis. This shows that the said scheme is not effectively implemented.”
Furthermore, Alemao pointed out that although the Sawant had stated a projected budget outlay of approximately Rs 78 crore for the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Apprenticeship Policy for government establishments in 2023, there is no budgetary provision for the same according to the data provided in the State Assembly.
