PANJIM: Highlighting the importance of environment conservation in the wake of numerous challenges Goa faces being a tourist State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that the government is focusing on sustainable development of the State.
“As a popular tourist destination, there is a growing demand for housing, which has put immense pressure on our resources. We are facing challenges like deforestation and pollution. Therefore, we are making efforts towards creating awareness on sustainable living,” Sawant said.
He was speaking at the inauguration of three-day ‘Goa – Centre for Media Studies (CMS) Vatavaran Festival and Forum on LiFE 2023’ at the ESG auditorium. The festival is being held in collaboration with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), its Commission on Education and Communication (CEC), #NatureForAll, Wildlife Trust of India, Video Volunteers India, Vidnyan Bharti Goa and BITS Pilani Goa from March 5-7.
“The Government of Goa is focusing on energy conservation. We are implementing policy for solid waste management, renewable energy and water conservation. We have initiated projects like e-waste and solid waste management and promoting electric vehicles. The government is also creating awareness among public to embrace sustainable practices,” he said.
