Goa Govt signs tech MoUs with IOC, Delhi University

PANJIM: The Goa government on Friday signed two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs), one with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and another with the Samarth / Delhi University.

Under the MoU signed with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the latter will harness green opportunities in the State and set up solar plants and electric vehicle charging stations at network touch points.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Indian Oil is ready to set up solar plants at the land or space availble in the state. “The company will also have EV charging stations at all its fuel stations across the State,” Sawant said.

“The state is taking major steps in the field of renewable energy. It is giving 50 per cent subsidy for setting up solar panels at houses. People can get their investment back within three years,” he said.

Sawant said work has started to transform Panjim city into a solar city. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a target of making India carbon emission free by 2050 whereas Goa has decided that it would be carbon emission free by 2040,” he said.

Under the MoU signed with Delhi University, Samarth e-gov suite will be implemented.

“It is an e-governance platform which will benefit the education delivery system in the State,’’ the Chief Minister said.

The common online portal will be convenient for teachers as well as the students, he said.

“Now we will be able to process educational scholarships within two months which used to take two years,” he said.

Sawant said Goa has become the 7th State in the country to introduce Samarth. Gov Suite is a purpose-built platform for universities and higher education institutions to deploy a digital framework of good governance.
