MARGAO: The ‘Save Mhadei, Save Goa’ group has accused the BJP-led State gov-ernment of deliberately not doing enough to stop the Mhadei river from being di-verted by the BJP-led Karnataka State government, to help the saffron party with their political ambitions for the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka.
While addressing media persons on Saturday, leader of the group Prashant Naik re-ferred to the statement made by the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in his budget speech, wherein he thanked the Prime Minister and the Central government for sanctioning their State with Rs 1,000 crore to commence the work of diverting the Mhadei river.
Providing further details of what the Karnataka CM said, including about speeding up the said works, Naik accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of lying to the peo-ple of Goa, especially when Sawant had campaigned for Bommai in Karnataka.
He also urged the BJP members of Goa not to campaign for the BJP in Karnataka as it would mean that they are betraying Goa, which will suffer and die a slow death if the Mhadei water is diverted.
Naik also said the recent Supreme Court is not to be hailed by the BJP government as the work being carried out by the Karnataka government has not stopped.
He further said it was time to intensify the agitation across Goa to get the BJP Goa government and leadership to open their eyes and ears to reality.
Naik also revealed that for this, their group has appointed a committee which has representation from all the constituencies.
