MARGAO: Claiming major violation of Goa Ground Water Regulation Act, Cuncolim youth on Monday alleged that water from Takka Bandh is illegally pumped by water tankers and is being supplied to the Cuncolim industrial estate.
A group of youth submitted a memorandum in this regard to the South Goa District Collector’s office, besides, police, Water Resource Department and other concerned authorities demanding legal action.
Speaking to the media persons, Trevon Dias said “Two tankers are involved in the illegal activities”.
“Both tankers are routinely sighted pumping water at a non-permitted area in an open river and later supplying the water to ice factories, beverages, and fishmeal, liquor and steel companies in Cuncolim. Open river is known to be unsuitable for human consumption as it is untreated for bacterial contamination and pollutants”, he said.
He alleged that this is also theft of water and these tankers are the leading water suppliers in Cuncolim IDC. This makes it an organised crime with the concerned officials also involved in the act.
The youth group also submitted photos as evidence along with the memorandum.
“For the concern of public health and safety, conservation of Goa’s natural water resources, we urge all the concerned departments to take the appropriate actions against the persons involved in violation”, Trevon demanded.
He said due to the water release in the canal these tankers might be frequenting the open river. This major fraud can be easily exposed by tracing the movement of tankers.
