MARGAO: After two years the historical Lohia Maidan is getting ready to host the Goa Revolutionary Day celebration at Margao, as the beautification of the Lohia Maidan is near complete. The maidan named after Dr Ram Manohar Lohia will be busy with day-long programmes by 18th June Kranti Din Committee and Government on June 18.
Avinash Shirodkar, President of the 18th June Kranti Din Committee, along with other committee members on Wednesday briefed the media about their programme to be held on June 18 at Margao.
He said that several competitions for the school children will be held at Lohia Maidan, beginning from 3 pm onwards.
“We have organised essay writing, patriotic singing, and other competitions for the students. Committee will felicitate the students who stood first in Class 10 in their respective schools in Margao and nearby educational institutions,” said Shirodkar.
In the morning session, the Goa Revolutionary Day will be marked with an official function from the government’s side. Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho is most likely to be the Chief Guest of the day.
Nearly 95 per cent of the beautification of the Lohia Maidan has been completed and hence its inauguration is likely to be held after the Goa Revolutionary Day.
“The pedestal height of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s statue has been increased as demanded by the locals. The objectionable door to the green room on the stage has been closed by the contractor, said Shirodkar.
As per the beautification plan, this Maidan will have a capacity of nearly 1,500 chairs and can accommodate around 3000 people at one time.
