Parsekar was speaking after inaugurating the dialysis unit at Vishwa Sanjivani Health Centre, Baina, in the presence of Power Minister Milind Naik and doctors.
While complimenting the doctors for starting the dialysis unit, Parsekar said the infant mortality rate in Goa is much less and the lifespan of a Goan is much higher than other parts of the country.
“However, due to our food habits and other lifestyle factors, Goa is on higher side in heart-related sickness and diabetes,” he said.
Parsekar further said due to diabetes, there is a rise in renal failure and the facilities are very limited. “The government will extend mediclaim to good private hospitals and once the Dindayal scheme is tendered, this scheme will also be extended to private hospitals with good infrastructure,” he added.
Parsekar said with the installation of two dialysis units at Vishwa Sanjivani Health Care Centre, it will help the locals with kidney ailments.
Dr Amol Mahadar informed that about 1,000 people are suffering from renal failure and the dialysis units are very limited, due to which many patients cannot get timely treatment. “Transplanting kidneys from relatives to the patient is a better and permanent treatment than undergoing dialysis,” said Mahadar.
Dr Mahadar said relatives of the patients should come forward and donate kidney for the betterment of their loved ones.
Dr Mahadar further said kidney from cadavers is an alternate option. “However, for patients with living kidney transplant, the survival rate is 90%, while in the case of kidney transplant from cadavers, it is around 80%.”
“Rs 1,100 will be charged per dialysis and the patient who avails the facility continuously for 10 sittings, the eleventh dialysis will be free,” he said.
