The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) Acting Chairperson Desmond D’Costa on July 18th July took up the proceeding of the complaint about the dilapidated condition of the office building of Directorate of Social Welfare situated on 18th June Road. A part of the false ceiling had collapsed recently inviting the ire of public and political class.
The complainant Roland Martins Co-ordinator GOACAN was present whilst Dattaprasad Gaonkar Assistant Engineer SD IV WD I (Bldgs) appeared on behalf of the Respondent Principal Chief Engineer PWD.

The Respondent sought time to file a detailed reply in the matter and informed that some repairs are being done on an emergency basis.
The Complainant pointed out that as these repairs are being undertaken there is no signboard stating that the PWD has commissioned the said work. Also, no cautionary signages were displayed to warn persons visiting the building especially Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities that they need to be careful as repair work is on going.
The Commission thereafter directed the Respondent to install the necessary boards / signages by Friday 19th July.
The Complainant also sought a status report on the alternative premises at Porvorim where in the Head Office of the Directorate of Social Welfare is to be shifted.
The Chairperson thereafter directed the Respondent to submit the same at the next date of hearing 6th August 2024
