PANJIM: The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has recommended to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) to act on the complaint and ensure that a leaking flat is repaired by the co-operative housing society within 60 days.
Ulhas Kambli had filed a complaint on November 11, 2019 in respect of the leakage in his flat situated in the Swaraj Co-operative Housing Society at New Vaddem, Vasco. But the managing committee of the society did not take any action to solve the seepage problem.
The RCS directed the managing committee of the society to take action in the matter by following the provisions of bye-law of the Co-operative Housing Society Limited. In March this year the RCS directed the managing committee of the society to submit the present status of the matter and the society chairman submitted that remedial measures like covering the terrace with plastic sheets and water proofing has been undertaken by the occupant of flat number 14.
However, in the rejoinder, the complainant stated that though covering of the terrace with plastic sheets had been undertaken, the leakage was on and the issue had not been resolved.
GHRC said that as per the bye-law number 149, it was the responsibility of the Board to maintain the property of the society in good condition at all times. Under bye-law No 152, the Board shall proceed to carry out the repairs and maintenance.
