PANJIM: AAP Goa convenor Elvis Gomes has alleged that Goa has become a leading drugs and narcotics hub in the country and accused the ruling BJP of not having the will to fight the drug mafia.
He made the statement in light of the recent seizure of ganja packets from the hawkers during an anti-encroachment drive by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
Speaking to reporters, Elvis said, “Goa had become a leading drugs and narcotics hub in the country and drugs proliferation was due to the extreme political pressure on the enforcement agencies which were not given a free hand due to nexus of the powerful with the drugs mafia.”
Stating that Ketamine was found in the IDC shed allotted to a BJP functionary, he said “What the politicians who are here today and there tomorrow say about drugs is not important. Whether the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is allowed to be enforced is critical to eradicate the menace. The BJP government never had the will to curb drugs.”
