Konkani now mandatory for district judges
PANJIM: The State Cabinet has amended the Goa Judicial Service Rules to now make Konkani mandatory for those being appointed to the posts of either the district judges or lower judiciary.
Speaking to the media at a post-cabinet briefing, Chief Minister said that the demand had arisen on account of the fact that many of these district judges were not able to understand the language that often entered the civil and criminal district and taluka level courts and that henceforth it would be made mandatory.
“The Goa Judicial Service Rules have been amended by the Cabinet and Konkani has been made mandatory for all those judges who will be appointed under these Rules including the district judges, junior civil judges, etc,” Parrikar said.
The Rules will come into effect once the decision is officially notified.
