PANJIM: As per the information provided by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar in Rajya Sabha on Friday, Goa is amongst the lowest ranked States regarding the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) scheme.
Incidentally, Tomar also gave the State-Union Territory (UT) list for the implementation of schemes for the benefit of small and marginal farmers under the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare. Under this, there were various categories for PMFBY and Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) combined State Wise Business Statistics from the year 2017-18 till date. Goa’s figures were reported as nil for most categories except for the paid claims, which as 0.1 crore in the year 2018-19 only.
Regarding the details of the implementation of the PMFBY scheme that was introduced for the Khariff season, as per the State-UT-wise list of beneficiaries during 2019-20 under PMFBY as on March 1, 2021, the applications of 0.01 lakh farmers of Goa were insured and 0.001 lakh farmer applications benefitted.
