Goa Liberation Day: Law Minister urges students to embrace ‘core human values’

MARGAO: Amidst the spirited celebrations of Goa Liberation Day in Margao, a heartfelt appeal echoed through the air, urging the student community to embrace and foster the core values of humanity. The call to instill these values aimed at cultivating a society where individuals not only excel academically but also contribute positively to the welfare of their fellow citizens.

On Tuesday, Minister for Law and Judiciary Aleixo Sequeira unfurled the national flag at South Goa Collectorate, Margao, marking the occasion of Goa Liberation Day. In his address, Sequeira highlighted the significant development witnessed by Goa since 2014 in infrastructure, healthcare, and social upliftment. He emphasised that the state is progressing systematically towards development and prosperity.

Sequeira noted that the majority of government schemes and services have been made available online since the State Government aims to ensure that people can access the benefits without facing any hardships. He stressed the importance of students as the future of the country, urging them to instill good values of humanity. Sequeira expressed the belief that dedication and perseverance will strengthen the student community, enabling them to achieve their goals in their chosen careers.

As part of the celebration, student groups from various educational institutions in South Goa participated in a march past and cultural program. Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim, secured the first prize in the march past, followed by Jawahar Nehru Vidyalaya, Canacona, in second place, and Almeida High School, Ponda, in third place.

In the cultural programme, Shraddhanand Vidyalaya, Canacona, clinched the first prize, while Ravindra Kelekar Dnyan Mandir secured the second prize, and Damodar English High School, Margao, secured the third position. The celebration also featured a street play highlighting the awareness and importance of voters and voting rights.

The event saw the presence of  Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Former Member of Parliament Vinay Tendulkar, South Goa Collector Ashvin Chandru, freedom fighters, senior government officers, and other dignitaries.
