PANJIM: With the government yet to decide on imposing severe curbs to break the COVID-19 chain, Goa reported 631 new cases on Monday.
The positivity rate which rose to 26.43 per cent from 10.76 per cent on Sunday has raised serious concerns in the State which hosted lakhs of tourists during the peak season last month.
The widening gap between daily new cases and daily new recoveries reflects that the virus is spreading at a much faster rate than recoveries. The consistency in growth rate can be seen across major places like the capital city and the towns.
With 631 daily cases, the recovery was merely 62 as no deaths were reported.
Active cases have shot up to 2,240 with Panjim, Porvorim, Mapusa, Margao and Candolim reporting high number of cases.
Within 24 hours, Panjim recorded 97 cases taking the total tally to 299, the highest among other health centres in the State. Margao and Mapusa urban health centres and Porvorim primary health centre saw an addition of around 50 cases each on Monday. In Margao the total active cases stood at 271 followed by Porvorim (153) and Mapusa (136).
The Candolim Primary Health Centre too reported an increase with 50 cases approx taking the active case tally to 111. The figures show that the cases breached the 100-mark in Candolim and Mapusa health centres.
