PANJIM: A brutal scuffle between two drunken tourists from Kerala outside Garcia de Orta garden in Panjim, left one of them seriously injured.
The locals intervened and called the Panjim Police. The injured tourist was sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for treatment. The police said, “We found two individuals bleeding, opposite Hindu Pharmacy. Both were brothers.”
Indicating the presence of a third ‘fighter’, one eyewitness said, “Three of them were fighting. They were literally rolling on the ground and fighting. Then one took a stone and hit the other.”
A woman eyewitness said, “A tourist was sleeping, the other came with a brick and hit him on his head.”
Questioning one of the tourists who assaulted another, a Goan asked him, “Why did you assault him? He is bleeding severely.”
The Goan further asked, “Is he your friend? What would you do if he died? Do you come here to drink and fight?”
The police confirmed that they hailed from Kerala. “Since no complaint has been filed no arrests have been made. One of the brothers has been sent to the Goa Medical College for treatment,” police stated.
The incident invited the ire of eyewitnesses, who expressed concerns about the negative impact of such brawls on Goa’s reputation and questioned the tourists’ behaviour.
Eyewitnesses said that due to brawls between drunken tourists, the image of Goa is getting spoiled. They should drink to their limit, they said.
