Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar himself has made the comment on Sunday that tourists are overflowing in Goa due to long weekend.
Tourists started pouring in from late Friday evening till Saturday. The streets were busy and the arrivals at bus stands and airport were completely full as per cabbies. Quoting the industry sources, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said hotels had reported 100% occupancy.
According to industry insiders, a room which was otherwise pegged at Rs 2k per day was selling for Rs 15k per night. However, the Chief Minister said jacking up prices overnight in this manner was not fare.
Domnic Fernandes, a hotelier from Calangute, told Herald the occupancy was full and rooms were booked a month back.
“People like Goa. Everyone wants to see Goa again and again. This is why we get so many tourists,” Fernandes said.
The bulk of tourists came in from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. But there are also sizable tourists who have arrived from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The trend of keeping the restaurants and hotels closed for renovation has been almost stopped in Goa since couple of years as tourists are seen here through the calendar year.
With the increasing influx of the tourist to this touristic destination the rates of flight and buses have also seen fluctuating at all weekends even in off season in Goa.
