MAPUSA: Stating that certain communities in Goa don’t have their own burial places, INDIA Bloc’s North Goa candidate Adv
Ramakant Khalap said that he had proposed setting up of public crematoria during his tenure as Chairman of the Law Commission of Goa.
He was speaking during a corner meeting held at Ucassaim in the Aldona Assembly segment.
“Some communities don’t have their own burial places and I had proposed that public crematoria and burial places should be created that will be managed by committees appointed under the mamlatdar in the talukas, collectors in the districts and the chief secretary at the State level, on the lines of similar cemeteries and burial places in the world, particularly in countries like America,” he said.
Khalap also said that he had worked to include the Mundkar and Tenancy Act in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. “I was given the task of pre-forming laws in Goa during my tenure as Chairman of the Law Commission of Goa. I submitted 22 reports on the land, rivers, water bodies in Goa and how to save and protect our land for posterity,” he added.
Khalap said that the current MP Shripad Naik, had adopted Ibrampur village in Pernem taluka to be developed as a model village. However, not a single rupee has been spent from the MPLAD funds for the village, he pointed out.
Aldona MLA and coordinator for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat, Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira warned voters about the possible changes that could be made to the Constitution by the BJP government.
“Don’t fall prey to this. Don’t allow division of votes. The type of changes that they are trying to do, the type of destruction of our people and nation which is going to be done will impact generations. We don’t want to go back to the Nazi rule, we don’t want dictatorship. We don’t want the Constitution to be rewritten. We don’t want democracy to be trampled upon,” he asserted.
