PANJIM: State government is contemplating to digitise and to put in place a centralised record of patients visiting Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the District and sub-district hospitals as well as community health centres, within the next three months.
Goa Infotech Corporation Chairman Chandrakant Shetye on Tuesday told media persons that the Corporation will collaborate with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) to run the centrally funded digitisation programme.
“These services will start within the next three months. This will save lot of paperwork. Also, diagnosis will be better with health officials having digital record of patients’ medical history,” said Shetye.
Shetye also informed that the digitisation project is funded by the central government and the government has given Rs 1 crore for the project.
“Some patients forget what treatment was given to them or even what health problem they were suffering from. The centralised data will help doctors to get medical history of the patient, which will help in treating patients,” he said adding that the Corporation along with DHS will work out modalities for implementing the project.
The data operators will be positioned at health centres, district hospitals and GMCH, to enter the data of patients.
“We have to see how much funding is required to run the digitisation programme and after that, work will actually start,” he said.
The Corporation will see that all the hospitals are connected with proper internet service before implementing the project.
