The Calangute Police have apprehended the prime suspect involved in the theft of gold plates from the residence of Nancy Dias in Saipem, Candolim, Bardez-Goa. The accused, identified as Eyakub Mondal, hailing from West Bengal and employed as a servant by Dias, allegedly absconded after committing the theft.
The incident, which occurred on April 27, 2024, led to the lodging of a formal complaint by Nancy Dias with the Calangute Police Station, resulting in the registration of Crime No. 58/2024 under Section 381 of the Indian Penal Code.
A team comprising PSI Akshay Parsekar, PC-7917 Gaurish Karbotkar, and P-7958 Harchandra Betkekar, all from the Calangute Police Station, embarked on a journey to West Bengal to trace the accused. Their efforts culminated in the successful apprehension of Eyakub Mondal at Village Panitara, under the jurisdiction of Kumarganj Police Station in Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal.
During the operation, law enforcement authorities managed to recover a significant portion of the stolen property, including three gold biscuits with a total weight of 300 grams, valued at approximately Rs. 25,00,000/-.
The entire operation was conducted under the astute supervision and guidance of Paresh Naik, Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station, with overarching supervision provided by SDPO Porvorim, Vishwesh Karpe, and SP North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
