Goa Police to examine GHRC’s BRICS order before initiating action

IGP says they are yet to receive a copy of the order; To first study the recommendations

PANJIM: Two days after the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) recommended that Goa Police impose penalty on the guilty caterer for supplying unhygienic food to on-duty personnel during the BRICS Summit in 2016, the department has decided to examine the order before initiating any action.
“We are yet to receive the order copy. Once we are in receipt of it, we will first examine the recommendations and accordingly direct any action,” Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh said.
Commission member A D Salkar, in his 7-page order has asked the Director General of Police to impose appropriate penalty on the Bicholim based M/s Amonkar Classic Caterers for supplying unhygienic food to the police personnel during the BRICS Summit duty. The Commission further asked the DGP to not overburden the police personnel on duty at pre-planned events and ensure the men-in-khaki are given enough time to rest.
The contract to the caterer had laid down certain terms and conditions such as cooking of food in hygienic condition, that caterer should not sublet the contract to another caterer, food supplied shall be of good quality with focus on hygiene too, and that the department will impose penalty if there is any dispute about the food quality.
Some police officers who were on BRICS duty had complained about the substandard and unhygienic food provided to the police force. In his reply to the GHRC, the DGP had conceded that the police department did not check  the quality of food.
