Goa Police to go paperless from today

PANJIM: Taking a step closer towards digitisation, Goa Police is implementing ‘paperless policing’ from Wednesday, May 1 on a pilot basis at four police stations, Valpoi, Collem, Vasco Railway and Dabolim Airport.
SP State Crime Record Bureau, Pankaj Kumar Singh informed that paperless policing is part of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network Systems (CCTNS) conceptualised by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a ‘Mission Mode Project’ under the national e-governance plan.
The CCTNS project covers 62 locations including police stations and higher offices. In Goa, the project connects the State Police with the rest of the country and helps in easy access of all the information related to criminals and therefore helps in tracking them.
Singh stated “By doing away with the maintenance of Physical records, police stations will be freed from the extra work load and thus can concentrate on ground level policing in a better way.”
He further said, “This move will benefit the citizen as well as police officers by reducing usage of paper. Centralised crime and criminal information repository along with advance search capabilities will help in easy tracking of criminals. There will be faster analysis of crime and criminal which will help the officers in his investigation thereby reducing the workload of the police station back-office activities such as preparation of regular and ad-hoc reports and station record management.”
Singh informed that through the new initiative citizens will be able to view contents of FIR registered, missing persons’ details, unknown dead body details, missing or abandoned vehicles, proclaimed offenders, most wanted criminals which will be populated from the live data received from police stations. Citizens can report a compliant online and can report any type of crimes happening throughout Goa.
