PANJIM: For the very first time, Goa Police will make their presence at the Carnival celebrations and give a social message.
The department, with the help of local artisans, is designing a float that will create awareness of various issues, giving a message that crime would not be tolerated in Goa.
“It is the first time we have made intentions to participate in the float parade to give a public message. Thousands of people throng to witness the parade and it is a good platform to send out messages and create awareness of a variety of related issue,” Director General of Police Muktesh Chander told Herald.
While Traffic Cell has been given the task to ensure the float is completed in time, the police department has also moved the Home Department seeking approval to participate for the annual entertainment show.
Among the issues that will be highlighted at the float parade, Goa Police has emphasised on spreading message about drug abuse, follow road safety, besides the recently-introduced Traffic Sentinel Scheme.
While a detailed concept is still being readied, the police chief has instructed the staff to distribute leaflets on Traffic Sentinel Scheme with a WhatsApp number, for registering complaints.
According to sources, in all likelihood, the Goa Police Band might accompany the float, while another set of police personnel will distribute leaflets.
The event will be held at four main locations in Panjim on February 10 along the new Carnival route from Miramar to Dona Paula, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa on February 11, 12 and 13 respectively.
