Goa Police to revisit history sheet of notorious criminals

DGP instructs SPs to identify top 10 criminals, wanted criminals and history sheeters; seeks details of cases pending investigation

PANJIM: After a gap of nearly one decade, Goa police is revisiting the history-sheet by listing out criminals frequently booked for various offences in the State. The attempt is to contain crime in the State while also ensuring fear of the law amongst the criminals, particularly those who continue to remain a threat to the society.
In a latest development, Director General of Police Muktesh Chander has instructed superintendents of police of both the districts to re-examine records of all the criminals involved in offences – heinous as well as non-heinous.
“Each of the two SPs is asked to identify top 10 criminals, top 10 wanted criminals, top 10 history sheeters… who are involved in different types of offences,” the police chief said speaking to Herald.
With a number of infamous criminals securing bail despite several FIRs and serious charges slapped against them, the police officers are also instructed to maintain constant surveillance on them. “The criminals who do not fear the law will be arrested. We will maintain a constant watch on them,” he said. The categories will also identify convicts and accused who are imprisoned pending case(s) investigation or trial in different courts.
In another set of instructions to his subordinates, the IPS officer has sought for details of all the cases pending investigation for several years. The investigating officers will also have to submit explanation giving reason for the delay.
