In a strategic political move, Goa’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Nilesh Cabral has tendered his resignation from the cabinet led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The decision is aimed at clearing the way for the induction of MLA Aleixo Sequeira. Cabral, who held the portfolios of PWD and Law and Judiciary, confirmed his resignation on Sunday morning, citing the party’s interest.
Sources at Raj Bhavan revealed that the swearing-in ceremony for the new minister, Aleixo Sequeira, is scheduled for 7 pm on Sunday. Although Governor Satya Pal Malik is currently out of the station, he is expected to return to the state in the afternoon, making the timing conducive for the ceremony.
While Cabral was not available for comments, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that Cabral willingly resigned in the interest of the party. The move is in line with the commitment made by the party to offer a cabinet berth to Aleixo Sequeira, who joined the BJP from the Congress last year along with seven other MLAs. The reshuffle underscores political maneuvering to accommodate key party members and fulfill prior commitments.
